Troy Hughan

Golf Professional & Manager Golf and Country Club

Troy first started playing golf as a 14 year old at the Croydon Golf Club. The club initiated a junior promotion and he eventually became a member of the golf club. Through junior competition Troy quickly dropped his handicap into the single figures and achieved a scratch handicap.

In 1995 Troy then spent some time working at The Waverley Golf Club. From there he decided to do a PGA Professional Traineeship and completed his final year at The Cranbourne Golf Club.

In 2001 after completing his Traineeship he moved into a Golf Club Management role at The Emerald Golf and Country Club where he spent two years overseeing the golf course and club house.

From 2003 to 2007 he managed the Northcote Public Golf Course where he worked with The Darebin City Council implementing strategies to promote the game and increase participation. At this point he also became heavily involved in teaching the game using techniques that differed from juniors to seniors. He found the most reward in the teaching of senior golfers (who thought they were too old to take up the game). He focused on using special techniques to play the game without placing too much stress on the body. Troy believes golf is a great game for the mind, body and soul.

After 2007 he focused on his teaching at the Latrobe Driving Range and Growling Frog Golf Course.

In 2009 he moved to The Kilmore Golf Course returning to a Management role where he focused on financial planning in order to rebuild the club after many years of financial loss. Through improvements in marketing and budgeting he turned the club around and increased membership, sponsorship and participation.

In March 2015 he moved to Hidden Valley Golf and Country Club and began his plan to improve the course and help increase the enjoyment for all that play the course.
